About CourtCanvas

CourtCanvas is a premium NBA data-visualization platform. Explore the current season's players, the all-time legends, and the playoffs through beautiful interactive shot charts — shot maps, heatmaps, zone efficiency, and shot density — then open any visualization in the Studio to style it and export a collectible poster.

It's built to feel like a modern art museum, not an analytics dashboard: the same data that fills spreadsheets, rendered as something worth looking at.

We believe sports data can be beautiful. Every shot attempt tells part of a story — the geometry of a player's game, the patterns that define a legend, the moments that made history. CourtCanvas exists to make that data explorable and visible as art, not just as numbers in a spreadsheet.

CourtCanvas combines two sources of publicly available NBA statistics: live data from the NBA's public stats endpoints for the current season, and pre-fetched historical data for legendary players, seasons, and games. All shot coordinates, game results, and player performance data represent historical facts — not creative works — and are used in accordance with the legal principles established in NBA v. Motorola (1997), which held that factual sports statistics are not subject to copyright protection.

CourtCanvas is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or officially licensed by the NBA, NBA Properties, Inc., or any NBA team. Player names and team references are used in an informational and statistical context only.

Built with Next.js, TypeScript, and Tailwind CSS. Shot visualisations are rendered as custom SVG and HTML5 Canvas — no external charting libraries. Live NBA responses are cached on the server to stay fast and respectful of rate limits, and poster export uses html2canvas for client-side image generation.
